CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE GRAND SPRING FESTIVAL GALA

In accordance with its promise to “continue to arrange Chinese cultural tours, lectures and teaching-material exhibitions”, the Confucius Institute Headquarters has arranged for a student arts troupe from Renmin (People’s) University in Beijing, China, to tour South Africa in March 2012 to mark the coming of the Year of the Dragon.
The student actors and actresses of the troupe excel at dancing, singing and, especially, performance on Chinese national musical instruments. Their programmes include solo and group dances of the Tibetan, Miao and Dai minorities in China, and solo and ensemble performances on percussion and other traditional musical instruments of the Uygurs and Mongolians, and of the most popular Chinese music. The Tibetan dance “Girl with her Yaks”, the Uygur song “The Tarim River” and the ensemble “The Great Joy” will also be performed. Most of the performance is traditional and of different ethnic groups in China. Local students will also take part in this gala performance.
