Vassily Primakov was born in Moscow in 1979. His first piano studies were with his mother, Marina Primakova. He entered Moscow's Central Special Music School at the age of eleven as a pupil of Vera Gornostaeva. At seventeen, after a summer at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, he went to New York to pursue studies at the Juilliard School with the noted pianist Jerome Lowenthal. At Juilliard Mr Primakov won the William Petschek Piano Recital Award, which presented his debut recital at Alice Tully Hall. While a student at Juilliard, aided by a Susan W. Rose Career Grant, he won both the Silver Medal and the Audience Prize in the 2002 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition. Later that year Primakov won First Prize in the 2002 Young Concert Artists (YCA) International Auditions, an award which presented him in solo and concerto performances throughout the USA. In 2007 he was named the Classical Recording Foundation's "Young Artist of the Year". In 2009, his Chopin Mazurkas recording was named "Best of the Year" by National Public Radio. Upcoming releases include an all-Schubert CD, the three Chopin Sonatas, and the first volume of Primakov's "Complete Mozart Piano Concertos" cycle, performed with the Odense Symphony Orchestra.

Spencer Myer is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where he studied with Julian Martin. amongst others. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including First Prize in the 10th UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria in 2004, as well as special prizes for the best performances of Bach, the commissioned work, the semi-final round recital and both concerto prizes in the final round. He is also a laureate in the 2007 William Kapell, 2005 Cleveland, 2005 Busoni (where he was also awarded the Audience Prize) and 2004 Montréal International Piano Competitions. Winner of the 2006 Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship from the American Pianists Association, Mr Myer also received both of the competition's special prizes in Chamber Music and Lieder Accompanying. He is also the winner of the 2000 Marilyn Horne Foundation Competition, and subsequently enjoys a growing reputation as a vocal collaborator. Gold Medalist of the 2008 New Orleans International Piano Competition, Spencer Myer is garnering stellar audience and critical acclaim from around the globe, rapidly establishing himself as one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation. Daniel Rowland was born in London in 1972 and grew up in The Netherlands, studying with Davina van Wely and Viktor Liberman in Amsterdam and with Igor Oistrakh in Brussels, as well as working intensively with Herman Krebbers, Ruggiero Ricci and Ivry Gitlis. Having won various national and international prizes, such as the Brahms Prize of the Brahms Society in BadenBaden and the prestigious Oskar Back competition at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, he made his concerto debut at the Concertgebouw in 1992 performing the Tchaikovsky concerto. This launched a busy international career as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, director and teacher. In 2009 his recording of the Vivaldi/Piazzolla 8 Seasons was released to critical acclaim ("to understand the meaning of fabulous, listen to these Piazzolla Seasons" – Die Burger). This recording, with the Stellenbosch University Camerata, went on to win the Best Popular Classical Album in the prestigious South African Music Awards 2010. He will be accompanied by Pieter Jacobs, a graduate of the University of Pretoria, who then furthered his studies at Yale in the United States, where he pursued his performing career with considerable success as a soloist and chamber musician in Boston, Cambridge and New Haven before returning to South Africa to perform and teach at the University of Pretoria.

Cape Town Concert Series welcomes back Jérôme Pernoo and Jérôme Ducros. Born in Nantes, France, Jérôme Pernoo studied with Germaine Fleury, Xavier Gagnepain and Philippe Muller (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris). He was prize winner at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow as well as at the Rostropovitch Competition in Paris. In 1996 he won First Prize at the Pretoria Cello Competition. He has since performed with major orchestras in France and across Europe. He has recently world-premiered with huge success the cello concerto by French composer Guillaume Connesson. Since 1995 he has given recitals with the pianist Jérôme Ducros in some of the world's most renowned venues He has made a number of recordings, and is founder and artistic director of the Music Chamber Festival ''Les vacances de Monsieur Haydn".
Also born in France, Jérôme Ducros studied the piano at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he was awarded a First Prize with distinction. In 1994 he was awarded Second Prize and the Special Prize for the best interpretation of the imposed work (Incises by Pierre Boulez) at the first Umberto Micheli piano competition, organized by Maurizio Pollini. Since then, he has been achieving a brilliant career, performing at prestigious venues from Paris to Tokyo through London, Geneva, Rome, Berlin and New York, both as soloist and as a highly appreciated chamber music partner. Jérôme Ducros is also a composer. His trio for two cellos has been performed a number of times throughout Europe and is edited for the Editions Billaudot.

FREE CONCERTS
Members of the public are welcome to attend the weekly performers' classes and lunchtime concerts which take place every Wednesday at 14:00 and Thursday at 13:00 respectively during the academic term. Admission is free, and the concerts fit neatly into 40 minutes.
